Vodafone cuts its mobile internet charges abroad
November 29, 2010
Vodafone has simplified its roaming data charges in Europe for Smartphone users.
From 1 December 2010, the Vodafone Data Traveller let’s you data roam your European destination for a little as £2 a day.
Pay as you go
If you’re on a “Pay as you go” tariff you will simply pay £2 day in exchange for 5MB in any of the countries listed below.
On Contract
If you are a regular traveller then you can pay £10 a month and you’ll receive 25MB download. You must opt in to Vodafone Data Traveller.
Pay monthly
If you’re on a tariff that costs £40 a month or more and get at least 900 minutes, you automatically get 25MB a day free of charge.
BEWARE
Whilst this is a step in the right direction you must still keep an eye on how much data you’ve used. The transparent nature of mobile data means you can easily rack additional cost without knowing it. A prime example is Google maps with Navigator. Whilst it’s nice to see a satellite shot of where you are the data usage flies up.
And do you really need to watch those youtube videos on your phone. There have been countless stories of individuals that racked up huge bills by catching up on TV. One user racked up a £1,900 bill to watch one episode of Eastenders.
